Schrattenthal celebrates the return of its festival.
This year, the historic Schüttkasten at Schrattenthal Castle will once again become a stage for contemporary art: from the 7 to 9 August 2026 the ZEITKUNSTFESTIVAL takes place here - with art, music, literature, performance and discourse in Austria's smallest wine town.
Under the Motto „ALL THAT FREUD!“ this year's festival, curated by Michael Kos, is dedicated to the Viennese founder of psychoanalysis: Sigmund Freud, whose world of thought continues to shape art and popular culture to this day. For three days, visitors can expect a packed programme - readings by Katharina Adler, Tom Saller and Steve Ayan, a staged reading of Sigmund and Martha Freud's famous „Bridal Letters“ with Sophie Aujesky and Mercedes Echerer, concerts ranging from jazz, klezmer and Brit pop to the „Jahrmarkt der Vernunft“ performance with puppetry and magic. In the Discourse Café, guests such as Monika Pessler, Director of the Sigmund Freud Museum Vienna, and cultural theorist Klaus Theweleit will talk about Freud, therapy and pop music.
After the festival weekend, the „ECHOKAMMER FREUD“ exhibition will continue at the Schüttkasten until 30 August: ten renowned Austrian artists - including Julie Hayward, Gudrun Kampl, Franziska Maderthaner and Stefan Zsaitsits - will be showing works on two floors that echo central ideas of psychoanalysis. Open Thursday to Sunday, 4-8pm, with guided tours on Sundays at 5pm.
We are delighted to welcome the ZEITKUNSTFESTIVAL to Schrattenthal Castle once again!
